Knossos Palace is where the fearsome Minotaur is said to have lurked. The palace is the legacy of a civilization dating back to 4000 B.C., when the Minoan empire flourished on the island of Crete. According to Greek mythology, the palace was designed by famed architect Dedalos with such complexity that no one placed in it could ever find its exit. Explore the complex ruins to find the Hall of the Royal Guard decorated with frescoes and shields houses , the Hall of the Double Axes, the King's Chamber with the alabaster throne, the Queen's Apartment, and yet more beautiful courtyards and shrines. The palace, situated just outside the town of Iraklion, is about 20 miles from Agios Nikolaos.

House for Sale on the island of Zeus

The history of the Greek island of Crete goes back to the 7th millennium BC. According to the legend, it is here that Zeus was born and reared. No wonder that now the Cretans not only adhere themselves to the principle of “living like Gods”, but also create all conditions that make the guests of the island feel just as good. As a result, many foreigners are buying properties in Crete for a holiday or permanent residence.

Crete, washed by the Aegean Sea, is located at the crossroads of the three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. This is the biggest island of Greece and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea.

Its beaches stretch across thousands of kilometers and are considered the cleanest in Europe, many of them were awarded with blue flag.

The island benefits from a mild climate, the average monthly temperature in winter is +12° C, +16° C in spring, +25° C in summer and +20° C in autumn.

The island's population totals 600 thousand people including 15 thousand foreigners from 80 countries.

“Crete is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Russians. In 2010 the island of the Gods was visited by about 134 thousand tourists from Russia, up 56% compared to last year. Quality service, delicious gourmet cuisine, friendly locals, clean beaches — all this makes the resorts in this island some of the best in Europe”

The house is located in the prefecture of Lasithi, surrounded by olive groves and orange trees. The house is 3Kms away from Agios Nikolaos sea.

Owners can make landscaping, set a summer kitchen with barbecue, indoor parking space or a pool, and build a natural stone fence over the perimeter.

Prospective residents will be able to walk, talk with neighbors and to get together for a barbecue. At the same time house preserves the privacy, since there are no large developments located nearby.

In 4 minutes drive from the Kakokamotes (Lakonia) Village find the famous Agios Nikolaos city offering restaurants, cultural centers, museums and offices. At the same time, winding streets, tiny shops, many preserved and restored Venetian buildings, including the old port and the lighthouse located here make the city very romantic and pleasant for walking.

“Purchase of property in Crete is a very appealing investment for all segments of the population.

For a reasonable price you can buy this economic nad comfortable house. In any other country in Western Europe, properties of this level are two to three times more expensive”

Crete has good transport accessibility. The island has two airports that accept flights from all major European capitals, and a few sea ports that connect it with Greece. There are daily flights from Russia to Crete by “Aeroflot” and “Transaero”, and in some days of the week these companies make two flights per day. You can also fly Greek airlines, including Aegean Airlines.

“Real estate prices in Greece have decreased because of the cutback of economic activity, so the country became more attractive for buyers. In 2010, experts also stated the increased interest in real estate in Crete, and now the island is beginning to compete with Cyprus”
Unfortunately, it is not that easy for Russians to get a mortgage in the Greek banks today. However, the loan amount can be 100% against the pledge of your Russian real estate, experts assure. Thus, the prospective owner can use the resources in Russia and pay 8% on the loan per year.

It’s the best time to purchase real estate on the island. “Greece is in the post-crisis situation — the prices have fallen. At the same time, financial support of the European Union helps it become once again one of the most preferred countries for investments. It is expected that in the near future the demand for real estate will increase and, consequently, prices will rise. Most clients that put off the decision about buying real estate are now returning to this issue. We expect a deferred demand,” the expert predicts.

Greece is included in the Schengen area, respectively, once you obtain a visa, you can also travel over the other countries of the Old World. Meanwhile, real estate purchase does not give you a 100% guarantee that you will get the Greek visa.
